Well, my oto decided to end his days at the far corner of the tank behind my java fern. I had to uproot the whole corner of the tank to get to him...

I dunno what was wrong with him...he seemed fine...this morning he was swimming erratically and after reading about so many others having trouble with otos I figured he might not make it.

Temp: 80
pH: 7.0
ammonia: 0
nitrite: 0
nitrate: ~5-10 after I did a 40% WC this morning
hardness: 120ppm

I'm not going to replace him with anything...my tank is stocked enough as it is and I didn't really have any algae for him to eat anyway...

Cya later, oto.

I feel your pain brother.

I went through 2 batches of otos previously and lost them all. Now the 4 otos that I have are doing great, and I didn't lose any out of their batch. I think the trick to keeping otos is to have a VERY WELL established tank with a good healthy crop of algae and plants to graze on. I cringe as I type that statement, because I was probably one of the people that recommended you get otos. Wait a while longer and if you develop some unwanted algae, try otos again.

It is a sad thing to dig a cute fish out of the corner of your tank, I know.
