are lava rocks safe to put in a cichlid tank ? i have been looking for holey rock everywhere, and just about to the point of taking a little drive and getting my own, i found some redish brown lava rock at a local landscaper, is real nice with holes and natural looking caves to it, .28 cents a pound ..would this work?,, i was also looking forward to the lighter color of the holey rock. still open for sugestions. i have seen where the holey rock helps control the PH of the tank, will Lava rock afect it as well ?

if you live in texas you should be able to find it cheap, armkes.com and ebay have pieces for sale, ill ask about local suppliers you could buy from, where in texas are you?

about the lava rock, it is inert and will not raise hardness, it is usually ok with africans, only problem is with sharper pieces, i had some sharp stuff that cut my cichlids up so i removed it
