I just got my 250w 20K lights hooked up and turned on, nothing is smokeing yet so I guess thats a good sign, and I didn't blow a fuse. It wasn't what I was expecting, I thought they would be alot bluer than they are, some people told me that. They do make the colors on the Foxface really pop. I am happy with them.

Ok, I ran the lights yesterday for about 5 hours to see what the temps got up to, with the front covers to my canopy closed, 80 degrees, the heater is set on 76. I will run the lights again today to see wht the temps get up to with the canopy covers open. Is the 80 degrees to hot? I am sure the temps will be cooler with the canopy covers open, we will see.

I just checked my temps this morning before I turned my T5s on, (the only lights on last night were the LED night lights) the temp was 78.8, I can only guess the heat is coming from my sump where the skimmer and the return pump are running, I don't have a fan running under the tank where the sump is. Do ya'll think installing a fan would bring these temps down some? I just don't want to run into a heat issue here, any advice?

Submersible pumps and the likes will increase water temp to some degrees or another (pun intended ;) ). A fan would be a good start, just keep an eye on evap. Depending what your house temps get to in the summer, you might need to look into a chiller.

I went to Wal Mart and got three of those clip on fans and have them blowing down into my sump, we will see how that works. I want to get the temp down to, say, 75 or 76 before I turn the big lights on. Its staying at 78 right now, we will see what the fans do.

Well, in the first hour the temp has went from 78.3 to 77.2, if I hit 76 I will be happy. I only have the T5s on right now, I bet when I turn the big lights on it will add 3 degrees at least.

What was on when the temperatures climbed? Is it just getting warmer in your house? even just a couple of T5's could cause a temperature shift of a couple of degrees. Also, the temperature dials on heaters can be wildly inaccurate (as can thermometers).

I like to keep my reef at a minimum of 78. I think 76 is too low. Whenever possible, I keep my reef between 78 and 82F (using a chiller in summer). Temperature swings of more than about 4 degrees over the course of a day can start to cause problems for fish.

I know what caused the temp. jump, I turned one of the fans off, it went back down. Right now with the T5s and the big lights on all doors on the cabnet and canopy are closed and the temp is 78.2 and holding. My heater is set at 75 so I need to turn that up a bit, I don't want it to drop below that at night when I have the lights off at night. The reason for the worry, is because of the new 250w lights, wanted to make sure I didn't fry the fish. I didn't know what the upper end of the temp. in the tank would be. Thanks for your answer.

After all the lights being on for four hours, the temp. got up to 80.2, thats with all the cabnet and canopy doors closed. I can live with that.
