Hey guys,

My fish seems to be a bit off color. He's in a 5.5 g with an Aquaclear Mini filter, a heater, and lots of plants. Water change 30-50% weekly. Eating bloodworms, Hikari betta biogold, flakes, shrimp pellets, and the occasional steamed broccoli. Lately he's been spending a lot of time sitting in the shade under a leaf. He still comes out and explores a fair amount, but I'm not used to seeing him sitting still at all. He's pretty hyper-active. I've had him about six months. He also hasn't made a bubble-nest in a long while. Has he just passed out of his hormone-crazed teenaged years or should I be concerned? No visible signs of illness. Some of the plants in the tank aren't doing too well, so there may be a bit of a heavy nitrate load for the moment. Fertilizing with the last waterchange seems to have helped that a bit though. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I'm a little paranoid.

Thanks.
