Is it bad to leave the light on in an aquarium 24 hours a day 7 days a week? (All the time)

The fishy get no sleepy time. Just like people in alaska, or anywhere else close to the poles.

Yes, is it torture to the fish. Imagine if you had to live with the lights on your entire life. It stresses the fish out. Stress causes disease. Disease causes death or more stress. You should give your fish 10-12 hours of light a day, at most. Not to mention it's not great for plants, and can cause algae outbreaks.

A cheap timer will do the trick. As valdok suggested . . . set for 10-12 hrs. per day.

Also, if you have live plants, you do not want more than 12hrs of light per day.
