I have a 100 gal. tank that right now has a less than functional light on it...I want to get a new light system for it either DIY or...? What kind of set up would you recommend? one LONG flourescent or afew? Orion, I was told you are great with stuff like this so Im hoping to hear from you too!!!

Just to help us out, what's the length of your tank? What are your lighting goals -- planted tank with low light, no plants, high light, etc.?

I've been happy with compact fluorescent fixtures, but I guess it's a personal choice in some ways.

I'd go with a DIY setup. This is the tank between the kitchen and living room right? the long one? You can hook up short bulbs to ballasts designed for longer bulbs and you will get more light out of them. ALso, you can run a single bulb off of a ballast designed for 2 bulbs and get similar results. I have a link to a decent DIY thread in my signature below: ~4.5wpg ODNO

Sorry I should have given afew more specs on the tank...it is 72 in. long...I am not planning on having live plants and I do want a brighter, cleaner looking light...my Discus are in this tank and have found they like to hang out on the outter perams of
the light that is on it now so I guess I should keep that in mind too when shopping for a new light set up...thanks for the link Delta...going to read that and take some notes too.
