Bringing this one back. Planted tank idea. DIY compact flourescent lighting. When choosing a CF bulb's wattage, do you take in account the comparable incadescent wattage or do you use the wattage on the CF bulb to figure your WPG? Example: a 40w CF bulb is comparable to a 150w incadescent. Do you use the 40 or the 150 to figure your WPG? Thanks all.

yeah you you use the actual wattage given. I just did my own DIY lighting but i use the long tubes to light evenly better. Just bought a ballast on e-bay and the ends and wiring stuff at the hardware store and mounted it in a DIY hood turned out good and the plants are growing much bvetter.

Lighting plans for 90g include, 3- 4' long shop lights. 140w of T8 lighting and one used for the black light with the option to add 72-80 more watts. Enough, strong enough. I have two standard 32w residential bulbs, one 36w aquatic plant bulb @ 5500k, and one 40w aquatic plant bulb @ 6500k, all T8. The third fixture will house my black light and I will overdrive the ballast to dbl the wattage to 80w, that will let me add more daytime light if wanted too. All T8 except the black light. Should be good for low light tank.
