i have an incan hood and was planning on getting some compact flourescent bulbs to screw in as a replacement, but the bulbs are a bit too wide once i try and put the light section of the hood back on the rest of the hood... any suggestions to remedy the problem?

Do you meen that the light strip will not fit back down onto the top of the hood? Thats the way that I took it. If so I would try to find something to prop the lights up some giving it enough room.

I had the same problem with my new 10g tank, so i went to Walmart and checked out their bulbs because they are cheap and I found a pack of two that were a lot more slim then the one i had previously. The pack of 2 costs almost $10 and they are 20w a piece. So check out your local Walmart and see if those will be small enough.

Yeah the 30watts will be suffice for your 10g tank. I bought a 14w bulb and it was a lot larger then the 20w bulb i found at Walmart. Maybe you havent found the right 20w made by lights of america or there was an even smaller bulb you needed and got?

For a short while I did the same thing on my thirty and had the same problem. I just took two blocks of wood and set them at the ends of the fixture, to raise it up about an inch. You can try and do that. Additionally, I'd recommend some daylight balanced bulbs. Home Depot sells some 6500k bulbs (daylight) for $7.96 They are 19w (i think) I'm currrently using one as part of a photosynthesis experiment with my 7th graders. Looks a lot better than the warm (aka yellow) bulbs that are mostly available.
