I'm looking at an aquarium on craigslist that is 46" in length and I'm curious if anybody knows what I can do for lighting and even a hood on a tank this size.

Maybe somebody can tell me for sure if the dimensions they are post are correct too. It is a 48 gallon tank and it is 48x12x20.

Thanks for any help you can give me :D

Those sound like the dimensions of a 55 gallon, which has a 48"L x 12"W footprint, if I'm not mistaken. As such, I would think that you could either opt for something which covers the whole length (48") of the top, or go with two sections which each cover half the top (24").

I know 48" is kinda the standard length and that is why it confused me. I sent the guy a message and I might just get the tank as long as its in decent shape. Its $70 for the tank and a wooden stand. I'm waiting for a reply back to the email, but hopefully I will have more info later today or tomorrow!

Yeah I ended up emailing the guy and it is 48" so it must be a 55g tank unfortunately he has sold the tank so that one is gone. I will just keep watching for another deal to come along on craigslist. Thanks for the info!

Well it wasn't sold when I emailed him asking him to verify the size of it but I guess my email after his answer was too slow and it got sold. He said he has a 70 gallon (probably 75) that he is trying to get rid of and if he doesn't hear from the guy by 1:00pm he can sell it to me. I'm waiting for pictures of that one and a price though.

I just got an email reply back from him and the tank is a $75 gallon but it doesn't include a stand like the other one did and its about $40 more. I think I'm going to pass on this one and I will keep an eye out for a better deal.

Keeping fish is fun. But there are a few basic things that you will need to know before beginning your new hobby. It is always better to get an aquarium ready before buying fish as the fish needs to have a ready environment to live as soon as we bring them home. Reading all about setting up an aquarium helps a lot in making the right purchase. An aquarium is a vivarium consisting of at least one transparent side in which water-dwelling plants or animals are kept.*GOLDFISH*
