First I just wanted to say.. I'm bigger! I'm a little fish now!

ahem....

Anyway... about quarantining... I realize the good of it, and I am currently quarantining my brand spankin' new opaline gourami... but what kind of things are you watching for when you leave them in the quarantine tank for two to three weeks! What would take that long to detect?

First, congrats on becoming a "Little Fish". I watch for (assuming your quarantine tank is in good shape . . . well oxygenated, chem free, temp in range, good water parameters, etc.) erratic swimming, physical changes. not eating, prolonged listlessness, fungus, tail rot, loss of color, etc. I usually leave mine in for about 7-10 days.

Not sure what others would say.

If I had the space I think it would be well worth it to Qtine new fish. Getting them from a store that has central filtration you never know what kind of nasties they have. Like loach said, most stores go through their own quarentine process when they get fish...but how long its been since they had the fish you never do quite know.

Some parasites have a pretty long life cycle, I would think that would be the reason for the length. Most other sicknesses would probably show up within a few days.
