Went to Big Al's today to price out some lights (I'll probably end up getting a double strip with 2 65watts in it) and of course found some Plecs.

Ended up with a cute little Long-finned BN, an Albino BN (was supposed to get 2, but the guy only caught me one, I gotta go back tomorrow and get the other), and the smallest little Pleco I've ever seen in my life. :)

He cost me 79 cents and he's about the size of a very small tadpole. I'm going to put him in my 40g, since that's the tank with the most stable water conditions and let him live in a floating breeder thing. I'm planning on feeding him algae wafers and zucchini, since I always see pics of a billion little BNs hanging onto a slice of zucchini. To be honest, I'm really not expecting him to survive, because he's sooo small, but I hope I have a chance.

So almighty Pleco breeder- wanna help me out a bit with some tips? Let's hope he makes it until I get home from dinner with some zucchini.

P.S.: I have no idea what type he is. Probably a BN or a common... who knows?

Wouldn't it be cool if he was a gold nugget or something rarer, though? Baby fish are always adorable, especially next to bigger fish.

Sorry, not really a helpful post...

He's probably a BN, but a pic would certainly help. Baby BNs actually need more meat in their diet. So don't be afraid to feed him some frozen baby brine, then move him up to other bugs. Get some spirulina flake and feed that to him as his vegetable matter. If he is really small his mouth isn't going to be strong enough to really munch on hard things like raw veggies and algae tabs.

How big...erm..little is he.

He's about this big: ----------

I'm not sure if I can get a decent pic of him at the moment, he's really small. I'll do my best though :)

The only food I have right now for fry is Hikari First Bites, will he munch on that? I was planning on giving him a tiny slice of boiled zucchini, I'll make sure it's really soft. I have to go back to Big Al's tomorrow. If he's still kicking, I'll get him some baby brine shrimp. I don't think I have enough eggs for my hatchery.

I'm really unprepared for this, I just didn't want to leave him all alone in that store!

He's large enough the meaty foods are not going to make much of a difference. He is small enough that he needs to be in something where you can make sure he is getting food. Use a breeder net if you have to.

The boiled Zuk will work, also feed him on reg ol flake. At this stage the flake will provide him with more than enough protein.

WalMart has the kind that hang on the tank. We use the plastic specimen containers that hang on the tank. Like the ones they use when getting your fish for you at the LFS. I have drilled 2 2inch holes in the front and siliconed a fine foam sheet over them. I then will point a power head at one of the holes forcing tank water in one hole and out the other.
