Plants vary from difficultly of keeping some plants like anubias, and java fern are very easy to take care of. Where they are plants that need a strong amount of light and C02 system to grow them.

I personally buy plants from my LFS, some people order it online. I am not quite sure where to buy online though.

Some plants required to be rooted so you would need to plant them underneath the gravel, most plants are rooted.

There are also different ways of enhancing your plant growth.

i'm hoping to get some java fern soon...my lfs has them in stock...
they are hardy and easy to keep...and can grow in low light...

the groovy thing about them is...
they attach themselves to things instead of sending out roots...
they have a root-like thing called a 'rhizome'...
and it 'hooks' on to solid objects and uses them as an anchor...
my lfs has them already stuck onto pieces of driftwood...cool ... :)

a little dear at 10 pounds sterling...but worth it i guess...
they look nice...and help with water quality... :):):)

well if you are going to do a planted tank 2 big thingd to think about are, one are you going to use your current lighting or do you want to pick out your plants and then upgrade your lighting accordingly. This is a great site for info on light requirments for diffrent plants, http://www.plantgeek.net/plantguide_cat.php?category=1

heres 2 online sites to but plants, i havent used them but many of the members here recomended them to me.
http://www.aquariumplants.com/cgi-bin/cart/index.html
http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/categ.cfm?pCatId=768

and theres always http://www.aquabid.com/ its an online auction for aquarium things.
good luck, cant wait to see who it turns out.

I dont think plants are really to hard if u do a little research and just treat it like a new fish your getting. see what it needs to prosper. start simple maybe, thats what i did, anacharis, hornwort, depends alot on your lighting. once you start plants, you'll be involved in it quick, its almost addicting as fish. there are millions of diff plants u can get, colors, how they grow, check out the plant profiles on MFT.
