Hi,
When I originally set up my SW aquarium I was pretty much just interested with fish only. The guy at my LFS recommend then that I just buy a cannister filter and forego the live rock stating that I don't need both. But after spending a week reading numerous posts on this forum and looking at so many pictures that eveyone has posted I think I want to get some live rock of my own now and see what it "grows". The question is can I still use my cannister filter if I do get live rock because this is also my source of water flow? Will the mechanical filter cause a problem for the live rock inhabitants?
My aquarium specs:
- 46 G with 40 lbs. of argonite sand and 20 lbs. top layer of live argonite
sand
- Fluval 304 cannister filter system
- a small mountain of sterile decorative rocks
- 17W standard aquarium tube light at about 24 in. or so that the FS set me
up with
- 2 clowns, 1 damsel, 1 firefish

Thanks in advance :)

Yeah, the canister wont harm, the live rock, and you can use both. Make sure to get cured rock, or cure your own by placing it in a seperate container for about a few weeks.

Oh, and by seperate container I mean another aquarium or something that can hold it. Put some fresh saltwater in there an a small powerhead.
