Lone Tiger Barb problem

Hi,

I recently was given an aquarium with 2 tiger barbs by someone who was unable to care for them anymore. I know that they are schooling fish & should be kept in groups larger than 2, but they seemed pretty content with each other so I hadn't added anymore. Unfortunately, one of them died so now I am left with one. I was going to buy 3-4 more to put with him, but my pet store does not have any adult tiger barbs, only tiny, not full grown ones. What should I do? I am worried that if I get those, that he will fight them since he so much larger. But on the other hand, he clearly isn't happy by himself. Does anyone have any advice?

anyway to split your tank with a divider until the small ones grow to be bigger?

I could maybe do that. Since they are so small, could I keep them in a 5 or 10 gallon until they were full grown?

10 gallon if you have one.

Do you know why one died? Test the water and make sure its Ok, if its the water quality adding fish will not normally have a good outcome.
