long intake filter tube???

my first filter i got had a normal size intake tube, but my new filter has extra "tube" attachments to make it long (like 3 inches above sand)... what is the point? i never saw it before

the point is to get the inlet of the filter closer to the bottom of the tank. This is to optimize filtering ALL of the water and prevent dead spots. Think about where all the poo goes?...To the bottom.

Altho in a sand tank it isn't a good idea to extend the tube this close to the bottom of the tank. You may suck up sand if a fish moves to fast near the intake.

I agree with pure. I like the long tube because I can customize it how I want. I just take a razor and cut the tube to the length I want.
