um there are sites which can give u vague ideas of how long a fish can live but it also depends on living conditions and proper feeding. If the optimal values are met, perfect water and food, a fish could very well like an amazingly long time, as the opposite can be said for poor conditions

Heck, this is four days late but I'll post it anyway. www.tropical-fish.net is a good site, and also www.google.com if you type in the name of the fish. (ex: life expectancy of cardinal tetras)
