ermmmm....... that looks almost exactly like my JD - right down to the 5 spots on its side......how do you tell the difference between a Jack and a Texas ?

(the odds are that you guys are right and I'm wrong about my Jack)

thats deffinately a texas, looks like its probably a carpinte (Herichthys carpinte)

JD have a brown/purplish color with irridescent specks close together along their sides

Texas have spread out spots of white or greenish if a carpinte all over their bodies

you can tell in these picks the differencees in color and body shape

Thanks SoulFish - the body shape says I've got a Texas - colour is harder to match, but there's no mistaking the slimmer taller shape. Got him from the LFS labled as a Jack 6 months ago, been watching him grow up and wondering about it.
