Lowering filter current

I set up a 5.5g tank for my betta and he doesn't seem to like the current from the hangon filter. Are there any "tricks" to reducing the current besides raising the water level? Thanks.

Do you have a flow-control on the filter? Floating weeds will also dampen the currents effect.

You can restrict the filter intake "size" by putting a piece of sponge in it or wrapping it with pantyhose, netting or something porous. I also once took a flat piece of plastic and wired it to the filter return so that the returning water first ran across the flat piece of plastic before going into the tank. This sends the bulk of the current across the surface, instead of creating a current down throught the tank.
