Magnetic Glass Cleaners...

Anyone here use these things? How well do they work? Worth the purchase? Following is the product description and picture of what i'm referring to.

i thinl the only thing to make sure of is to get one that has a real strong magnet so that it will scrub your tank real good.i have one but mine is a little underpowered to clean more than a 10-20 gallon tank

The back of the packet has a rating of the thickness of glass it will work for and what size tank it is recommended for I think most of the chain stores sell them, they were from $5 to $8 I think.

Mine does great though I do have to go over the algae a few times to get rid of it all. They were really expensive I nearly fainted whe I saw the price tag lol.

I bought a non floating one at walmart for $5. I hardly ever use it because my kenyis are supposed to like algae, but I used it the other day because the algae was getting to bea little too much. It worked great, but definitely watch your fingers!

thanks for all the great replies! i live in a relatively small community and end up buying alot of my stuff online. i've had great experience with www.thatpetplace.com (for one) and they seem to have great prices! they have these in 3 sizes. the one i'll likely get for my 20 gal is only 5.99 and is for tanks up to 30gals. the next one is for tanks up to 125gals & is only 8.99. you still gotta pay shipping so its best if you need to get a few items.

I have one too but it isn't the floating kind, it has strings attached to both ends so you just have to pull it up out of the water. It works great. I think I payed 5 or 6 dollars for it, well worth it

I had a large one (oo-er missus) which worked great on 35 gallon+ tanks but the magnet is too strong for anything smaller. The thing judders instead of moving smoothly, vibrating the tank something rotten, scattering the fish and settling all the substrate!

the coarse side (inside the tank) can pick up small bits of grit with resulting nasty scratches so be careful and do the bottom of the tank last - then clean it before moving on the next tank.

After a few months the outer side eventually starts to break up and you get smears of dried adhesive, time to replace it!

At that price though, I'll be dumping mine and putting a washing up (non-scratch) scouring pad and sponge into use! Dedicated to use in fish tanks of course!!

After a while, who cares if you get your hands and arms wet?

i would get the smaller one for your tank if you haven't already. the one for 125g might be a bit bulky. its a neat product that you will like... i do!

I got the small one at Bigals..the one pictured above. It was pretty damn cheap IMO. It works great on both my 29g and 10g
