ok...to make a long story short, my whisper60 is turning into a poorer excuse for a filter by the minute. im buying a new filter and my dad suggested the magnum canisters(he had one on his 60 gal when he kept fish). ive checked it out and it looks good, i was going to get the H.O.T. model, but i figure ill spend the extra money for the larger one(so when i get a larger tank, i wont need to buy another one)

anyone here use/ever used these filters? id like to know if they have some buzzkilling flaw that the manufacturer doesnt tell you about before i drop 100 bucks on it.:D

thank you for your time.:D

other than the occasional clip failure, they are like all marineland products, tough, and well built for the most part(aside from my gripe with the emperors)what size tank is yours again loach?
my one thought one the magnums is they are a bit overrated in terms of fish load.they don't have the media capacity of similar rated cans.they make up for that with bio-wheels and the micro cartridge i suppose.

the tank im putting it on is a 55(which is why i considered the H.O.T. model) but i might get a 75 or a 90 in the next few weeks(which is why ill probably get the 350). the 350 deluxe and 350 bio-pro are 20-50 dollars more, but im going to read up on them too.

I have the HOT 250 that you mentioned on my own 55gallon. I have actually had this filter for over 5 years and only problem I have had with it was the impeller which wore out. Other than that it is a great filter and from what I know the 350 isn't any different.

I use the 350 pro (with 1 bio wheel, not two) on our 55 and the 87g tanks. Never had any problems with them at all. As I don't run carbon in the filters, you can fill the canister with ceramic or bio balls. The media capacity is a bit smaller than some other canisters, but the bio wheel and micron capability make up for it fine.

I also have the H.O.T. model on a 50g tall and it works very well.

You can get both these models from big als for real cheap too...that never hurts :D

Hi. I don't know if the discussion about problems with the Magnum 350 is over but but i'd like to inform you about the problems i had with it. Firstly make absolutely sure that the intake apparatus is submerged in water if its not air will not escape the canister and there will be no water going into the filter. When this happened to me i had to get down on my hands and knees and "mouth prime" it if you know what i mean. Secondly check your media often, if it gets clogged water will not go to the output and the canister will fill up and water will squirt everywhere. I know it may seem like i'm giving it a bad rep, but i'm not. I'm really pleased with the job it does on my own 55Gal. I can attest to that, see my last post called Faded Goldfish. In other words it does a great job so i say "Go for it!!!"*thumbsup2
By the way i have 4 Comet Goldfish and a Pleco in a 55Gal and i know Goldfish are very dirty fish and my water is very clear. Oh yeah and i have a 10Gal hospital tank that i have'nt had to use yet.:)
