I am looking at a used tank that comes with a Magnum Canister filter, is this filter any good? Please share any knowledge or experience you have with this filter, thanks.

you will likely get mostly posivitve opinions on this filter, but i dont like them much. they are good for mechanical and chemical (which many people dont use, including myself) but thats about it. i actually had the mag 350 and i sold it to a friend within a month.

problems? no biological filtration, crappy plastic hose connection rings, crappy little plastic thing that holds the intake/outake to the back of the tank, crappy outlet pipe within the actual filter that i actually "bent" while trying to seal the O-ring...

everyone seems to love these though, so you have to decide for yourself. i would go with an eheim or even a fluval before one of these plastic beasts.

wrong i thinkthat these filters are only good for micron polishing or powering bio-wheels.compared to a real canister these are JUNK.i like marineland products but that doesn't mean everything is good.honestly after experimenting with all the different things they have made i realy like the penguins and the heaters.everything else has to many moving parts to fail and they are under enginered.i'm not saying you can't use a 350 but don't put all your eggs in one basket when using a 350,your gonna need multiple filtration to supplement the 350's short commings.

i agree with you for the most part, but isnt this a bit extreme? (the "wrong" part) i think they actually do a decent job on mechanical filtration, and they have a higher GPH than many others, but yes i still dont like them either.

no not realy if you look at the wat they draw water in its inconsistant and the filter pads they offer allow way to much bypass due to recent cheapnees by marineland.i swear that the filter floss has gotten thiner and less effective in the last year.i run a magnum 250 and they are basicly the same thing but i just dont like the way they draw the water in.the top of the pad is always full and the bottom is virtualy clean.that and the media chamber will collect too much mulm and if you try to use bio-meida it becomes useless because there is no bypass of water due to the fact that the filter pad is inefective.well thats all my experince.your may vary.
