Magnum HOT noisey?

My Magnum HOT makes a sort of a vibration noise, any ideas?
Almost like something is off ballance

I have a HOT Magnum and I cant hear it at all. At times I have to really look to see if it is running. Have you checked to see if it is clogged? And maybe it is off balanced. If the water flow has decreased you will need to clean it or change the media.

I have 2 HOT magnums, and one does this every once in a while... the other one never does. I did notice than when I had it hooked to a biowheel, the noise was less than it is when it is running stand-alone. I agree it sounds like something is vibrating, but I never investigated it enough to figure out what it is. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread.

Hmm, its definately not clogged, casue it will do this RIGHT after I clean it completely. What kind of moving parts does this thing have? Maybe the impeller is off balance, can I buy a new one?

Did you line up the bottom part right? I have a Magnum 350, and it can make some pretty horrendous noises if you don't get the stuff lined up right on the bottom after you clean it.

^^^ That's one of the things I suspected, but since I've had it apart and back together quite a few times (for cleaning, media change, etc) and I'm sure I haven't misaligned it every time. Is there something else that might be able to become lose, or possibly the motor unit itself wearing out?

wgf97079 - how old is your magnum? (and yes, you can get new impellers/motors for them, check bigals).

While I am sorry I do not have a solution for you I wanted to chime in and say that I have the exact same problem. It occurs after I clean it and is currently driving me NUTS! What sort of media do you use in it? I replaced the carbon with the ceramic bio max cylinders. I have suspected that they vibrate if they are not packed tight enough and cause the noise.

Simple, Just use cotton swab and clean the "seat" where the orange gasket sits nested in the lid,often carbon and debris will prohibit a proper seal,at leas to my trials, I have two hot 350's on my 100 gal. octo. and they used too do the same thing,try that and get back to me.
