Copper is usually green, could have been a copper based lid? Strange? Don't sound good tho.  Im sure you can get a test kit to test for copper, might be an idea?

ok its not copper its aluminium.  so that means the metal is starting to deteriorate or there is a sort of algae either way my tank is still cloudy i think i should add it was because my heater went on overdrive and took the water to 90 degrees!  Still dony know what to do any ideas ?

Check the ph etc of the tank if its ok use a product like filter aid and get a second opinion from more guys here.  A good water change wouldnt go amiss either.

This is JMO, but, take off the top and get a plastic or plexi glass or solid glass top.  If you have metals close to your tank your just asking for trouble.  If you have to keep it, take it off and give it a good cleaning with diluted dish detergent and rinse it WELL....  Do about a 15-20% water change if you think your fish can take it. If not do a 10-15% every few days, until your levels settle out, if they are out.  And get that heater under control or you will run into cooking your fish like once happened to me.  I lost a breading pair of Severms and a full grown Jack Dempsy that way, belive me, you want to talk about getting pisssed off with your self..  Heat and lots of light will give you algae.  How long are your lights on?  Ive also seen algae grow around the lid of a tank where the water was splashing up on it and the lights were on too long....That could also be your prob...  Take it off, clean it and look for the problem.
