I Know a guy who i got into a disscussion about bettes and he told me he kept his male betta in a community tank with other fish that were not bettas and he never had a problem with it. Is this possible?
FishGeek is right, it depends on the other fish and the betta itself. I've had two male bettas (at separate times of course, never together) in a community tank with swordtails, cories, ghost shrimp, algae eaters, otos, etc. Both were ok. But it depends on your particular betta.
It's possible to keep them in a community tank. Keeping them with guppies and gouramis is not a good idea, though. Then again, I have a male betta in a 14g tank with a female betta and at least 5 guppies and there is no aggression at all. Sometimes it just depends on the fish in question.
Just remember to not house him with gouramis and for the most part fish with long flowing fins...I have kept several female bettas with gouramis and guppies and never had problems
Serpae Tetras are known for being nippy.
