Male eating eggs

I asked this in the other thread but i probably wont get an answer there.

I have just watched my female GBR lay lots of eggs on the substate, but the male doesnt fertilize them he just picks them up and then spits them out again. This is there second time breeding and the male is about 1 and half inches long.

Why is this happening and will they ever get it right or do i have a stupid male?
Its really fustrating watching a female lay all these eggs and then watch the male just treat them like some food lol

I don't have much experience with rams, and no breeding experience...but a lot of times males become sexually mature later than females. So it could just be that the male isn't ready yet and your female is...give them some time, they'll likely get it right soon

Funny that the female is ALOT smaller than the male and she knows what shes doing lol.
Is it possible for a full grown male to never get it right?

Thats why all cichlid questions and info should go into the Cichlid section. (Pet peeve of mine sorry.) That is if it was in a section other then this one.

Maybe he isn't ready. Very common with cichlids. Give it time, they could easily go through this for many spawns.

Yeah your guy is still too young, I was shocked in that other thread you mentioned they had spawned already. I remember thinking how young they both looked.

Give him time to grow up.
