male / female ratio in betta spawn

HI,
I seem to get a lot more females than males in my spawns. (usually get a 2:1 or even 3:1 ratio)
I wonder if there's anything that's determining the gender of the fry?

Dunno about bettas, but i saw this thing that said how crocs eggs gender are determined by the temperature that their kept at.

Something like 33C to 34C = male
anything higher or lower = female

I read somewhere, some people says temp or pH could affect the ratio; but this seems to be a myth. (higher ph or temp will produce more males than females)
Has anyone tried and actually proven this works?

If you think about it, it's really in the fishes best interest to have more females than males (all it takes is one male to fertilize a whole heap of females' eggs). Maybe there are always more females than males for that reason.
