Male Platy Trying To Breed With Female Betta

I put my female Betta in with my Neons and male Platy. It looks like he's trying to breed with her. So far, I put my 2 females back in the tank with him and he seems to be ignoring the Betta now. But I was wondering, is it normal for a male livebearer to try to breed with a female fish that's around the same size and color??

Oh, it's normal for them to make a pass on anything that swims. But oh man, I wouldn't want to be him when she gets sick of it!

Livebearers - They'd poke a tree stump if there's a hole in it.

When I had two males in my tank they'd constantly try to mate with each other, and it always seemed like they'd realize at the same moment they were both dudes and dart away both looking pretty offended.

lol guys!! Thanks!!! ITT, she did start to chase him around and he got the crap scared out of him. They are now ignoring each other and there are no injuries. But aak and Ryan, I just love your comments!! lol!! I couldn't even type for 5 mintues after reading those!! I was laughing so hard, my cats were looking at me like I was crazy!!
