Kind of a rookie question here...would a few marimo balls be sustainable in a 29 gallon aquarium that is unplanted? The reason I ask is that I'm looking for some floating stuff to add some decor to the upper area of my tank, and I figured since the marimo balls are made up of algae instead of typical plant material they might be ok.

I'm hoping that in adding some floating stuff to the top of the tank some of my fish will spend some more time up there (i.e. the angel and the neon tetras).

sounds like a fun idea, although i dont know if it will change the habits of your fish, they will dwell where they naturally dwell, but maybe theyll change! you might find your botia playing around them/eating stuff off them
