I have a 29 gallon tank with a UGF. It seem pretty healthy, but I am thinking of replacing the UGF with a Bio-Wheel to help the plants and other reasons. So the quesiton.

I have been looking into the Marineland Bio-Wheel Power Pro 30 as a replacment for the UGF. What do people think of this filter. It seems like it would be very good. The other option I have been looking into is a Marineland Emperor 280.

I was particuraly interested in the Pro 30 because it seems it doesn't have a carbon filter(that I would just remove) and if I desired to have some current in the tank I can divert some of the current into the tank and the rest into the Wheel. So does anyone use one of these Pro 30 or 60's? I can't seem to find one to look at in person, and their are very view articles on-line I think because of how new they are?

Incase you couldn't tell I like the Bio-Wheel's and Marineland, but if someone thinks something is better I would be curious.
Thanks for the help

I have 2 30's that I originally bought to make into a 60. Ended up splitting them up for two tanks. 35g(Mbuna) with a 30 and a H.O.T. 250 that's all, working great so far only been set up for about 3 months though. The other is a 30 and a power head 550 on a 65g(SA/CA) along with a 10/20 pengiun. Only been up for a month. I will look for some of my pics. If I don't have any I could take some. Just let me know.

Update

I made a snap decision and bought a 280 tonight :). Just so hard not to buy stuff for our tank. Anyway I am still reall interested in the 30 and a power head for any future tanks. I want to get a bigger tank(currently 29g) in the next 6 months and so I would be very interested in how the power pro 30 works out for you. Am I correct that you have the ability to divert some of the water into the tank directly out of the power head? Does that work well? If I get a bigger tank I am considering some clown loaches and I hear they like current. However I always want to have live plants so UGF are not a very good option.

Sorry this post got so long. The answer is yes, I would love to see pics and am very interested in what you have to say as time goes by. If you were to write a product review in 5 months(or sooner) I would defintly read and appriciate it.

Carbon or not.

SoulFish, or others
Where can I get cell pore bio cartridges? Is there a certain company I should be looking into. Please help me find more information on my cartridge options. I have read from other people they don't use carbon, and I feel my plants should do better if it isn't in, but I would like to become more informed and most people seem to just use the carbon without looking into it.

My choice is the Penquin Biowheel filters (125,170, and 330) over the Pro 30 and 60. There are no spray bars to clean monthly and a lot cheaper for cartridges. For a 29 gal. I have had a Penquin 125 and Penquin Mini together which worked great.

Currently on my 40 gal. I have a Penquin 170 and Penquin 125, which is quite good I'd say.
