Marineland has come through!

My first tank, an Eclipse 6 gallon, cracked after having only for 3 months. This was especially frustrating considering how long it took me to do a fish-in cycle.

Mailed the tank back in hopes of a replacement, but didn't hold my breath. Just got an e-mail letting me know they've sent out a new tank and I'll receive it in a week!

So excited! Now to decide what to do with it.....a platy fry tank? Or maybe a betta tank? I love these kind of decisions! *twirlysmi

You seemed interested in raising platies, so I'd use it as a platy fry tank.

Yeh, I was psyched to get the news! If I was undecided before about what to do with the tank, I'm not anymore after seeing your fry pics tonight!

I'm feeling a little guilty about buying a new light fixture for my 20 G and feeling maybe I should sell the Eclipse........Nah! What fun would that be?

Well, I should've known it was too good to be true. Although I had sent back to Marineland the cracked 6 gallon kit, hood, filter and all (which cost me $15)....what they sent back to me was a 3 gallon acrylic tank only. No hood or filter. This is pretty much useless to me! Anybody need a 3 gallon Eclipse tank??

Should I pursue this or give up, since this may be as good as it gets?

If I were you, I would go back and re-read the email from them to see if they specified what they were sending. If they did not, then I would send them another email or even call and ask if it was intentional that they sent a completely different product than what you sent in. It could be that they sent the wrong item by mistake. That happened with my husband's cell phone. He had ordered a replacement for his razr phone and he got something completely different. He called and got it corrected pretty easily. Good luck.

I'd do as ladymaiden suggested and see if you can get them to send you what they were supposed to replace in the first place.

I'd pursue it too. The same thing happened to me when my parents got me a bag for my laptop. I got sent the wrong bag twice and then finally got the right bag, but I did get two free bags out of it that my dad and brother now use.

If they said they were going to replace your 6 gallon it should be replaced with a 6 gallon, anything else to me is unacceptable, especially when the original product was only 3 months old.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I've taken your advice and sent Robert at Marineland an e-mail. The only thing I think may happen is that he'll say that they did send the wrong size tank, but that I didn't need to send the whole kit (hood and filter) back so they may not replace those.

You see, I sent the whole kit back to the address the warranty card listed for returns. Several weeks later, I sent an e-mail to follow up. This Robert contacted me to say that they're no longer at that address and if I gave him my postal confirmation number, he'd take care of sending me a new tank. So, it seems they never got my package and so may not have realized that I sent the whole kit. I guess I should have only sent the tank part itself......SH**!!!

Well, it's been over a week and I've heard nothing back from Marineland. So I forwarded all my correspondence with that Robert guy to the tech help dept. at Marineland.

A replacement tank would really be nice about now for my new platy fry just born yesterday!

Well, here we go again. I finally received an e-mail stating Marineland was sending me a complete Eclipse 6 system. We'll see.

They really did come through! A new Eclipse 6 system arrived today!

Now to decide what to do with it. I'm tempted to have a fry tank, but doubt I'd be able to catch the fry currently in my tank so I can move them to the 6 gallon. Anyone have any suggestions?

If I were you, I'd leave the platy fry in your current setup and move the 3 adult platies over to the new tank (or, if not all 3, then whichever one(s) you think might be preggo or due next). I'd add some plants, gravel, and filter media from your established tank as well...to help jumpstart the cycle.

By doing this, you'll ideally have the female platies in there for when they need to drop fry again. Then all you would need to do is net the adult(s) back out into the 20 gal. tank and leave the fry to be raised in the new 6 gal.

EDIT: The cray idea you had (see other thread) is also a good idea. *thumbsup2

Thanks, Ladymaiden. I was quite excited! I even had some really crazy dreams about what fish to stock the tank with. I wouldn't even begin to tell you about those dreams.....they were that bizarre, you'd think I was crazy!

Well, I believe the yellow/black hi-fin will be the next to have fry. Hard to tell though because of the black color to most of her body, the gravid spot will never be visible. Can't wait to see what I end up with.....dad is a red wag tail. Moved her into the Eclipse along with a fake plant, some hornwort, some gravel, and a piece of the filter sponge from my other tank.

The sunburst will have fry around the 9th of June, so I'll move her in before then. Will have to add more hornwort for the fry to hide in though.

So, we'll see how this goes.

I am personally a HUGE marineland fan.. and if I have the option of buying something marineland versus another product, even if it's more money, I spring for it. I've just had better luck with the products in general - and they really do honor their warranties.
