i've always just assumed it is pronounced like mmm-boonah... although who really knows! I do know the word means rock-dwelling, meaning that these cichlids remain close to the substrate and large rock formations.

i've asked different people and the most informed seeming answer was muboona
short u short a. i now pronounce it that way and no one has laughed yet...lol...i hate when people try to be cocky and then mispronounce what they're supposed to be experts on. one guy was telling me he used to breed cichlids...but pronounced them with a ch sound "chilits" almost like the candy.....i was just dying everytime he said the word. he was such an "expert"......lmao...

i've been told at the lfs that it was mmmbuna as radamski suggested, but i dont suppose it matters how you pronounce it if the shop keeper knows what you mean :)
lol phooey, my old pronunciation of cichlids was even worse than that, i used to say it 'chitch-lid', how did i not realise that was wrong!!??
