Hey all
i noticed today while doing wc etc (in my sons 10g) 1 of the little guys fin is not looking right. now ive always had fin nipping in my tanks due to large numbers but nothing like this (ill try to get a picture).
i keep my water parameters excellent !
was reading on Melafix and a couple of threads and would like to use in my tanks. ive read all good things and i really like what ive read.
just wanted some feedback.
i like the preventative approach, use now and avoid problems later.
thanks all

I wouldn't recommend it as a preventative if you have no problems in your tank. However, if you see the beginning of mild fin rot or problems, it would be better to add it sooner than later.

It's a fairly mild medication, and it generally doesn't work well on aggressive or serious fin rot or infections. The good thing is that fish tolerate it extremely well, and it doesn't seem to harm inverts, plants or anything else in the tank.

Of course, if the tank is generally overcrowded or has fish that nip at each other, in the long run it will continue to cause stress, which can lead to disease. That problem will need to be fixed for the overall health of the tank.
