Micky Mouse Platies

My two Micky Mouse Platies look pregnant but they are not having babies. They have looked this way for two months now. They look healthy and happy but their tummies are huge. What is up with this?

I have Mickey's that look like this too. I have noticed that when they actually are preggers that about a week before dropping their fry they end up looking like they have swallowed a balloon! Sounds like your Mickey's might just be fat and happy like mine!

Thats my guess also platies do have a pretty round tummy and maybe theyre all fat. hehe.

I've seen exactly the same thing. I have 3 x Mickeys and 3 x sunsets (one male and two females in both cases) and the Mickeys are all about twice as wide!

Had similiar fat belly syndrome with a dalmation molly and a swordtail. Moved them into a different tank, slowly introduced some salt, and got FRY! See if the other tank mates can tolerate some salt maybe?

On a funny note, I put the fry in the breeding net to especially get them away from this one inch albino frog but he managed to swim up the 16 or 17" of water and get over the 1" of net, and had a small snack of about 12 fry. I could have killed the stupid little thing if I had found him. MAYBE he'll go back to the LFS. Argh.

Everytime my mmp's eat, they look as though they are going to explode and then 7 hours later, they look normal again. I have the same issues
