Is this filter cheap for a 90 gallon tank? I need some advice. i went to one fish place, and the lady said i need more than a millenium 3000 for my fish tank, but a couple places ( including the place i got it from) said the Millenium 3000 is all i need for the 90 gal tank. im so new. i need advice! help. what's the best filter to get out there? and whats the worse? and where does my filter rank among others? Thanks.

A single Millenium 3000 is not enough for a 90gal tank. I run a Aquaclear 500 and a Magnum250 on my 75. This combination cycles the water in the tank through the filters 10 times an hour. It depends on what you want to put in the tank. If you have cichlids then you need to cycle the water atleast 10 times an hour. For noncichlids 7 times an hour. Heres the formula. The Gallons per hour (gph) that the filter cycles the water through it, devided by the gallons the tank holds.

i plan to put medium/light lighted plants and some tetra and pleco's at first. then maybe add some other fish later. so a millenium 3000 is not enough to maintain a healthy/clean environment? how much more filtering should i get then? what kind?

At 295 gph your barely cycling the tank 3 times an hour. I'd say add an Aquaclear 500 that should get you to 8.8. As you add fish (and you will) you will need the extra filtration.
