I just got a zebra Nerite snail last weekend, and so far all has been well. I have one concern: Why does it keep going above the surface of the water on the side of the tank? It keeps hiding in the corners and around the inside of the rim!

This morning, I went out there, counted my fish (like I do every morning, just a habit) and found one missing: the snail. I was thinking he could have gone out the back by the filter, but where would he go? I looked all over on the 'stand' that the tank is on, and didn't find the snail anywhere! He is no where in the tank, I already checked all the ornaments, and I have no idea where he could have gone. Please help me find Speedy!!

I have 2 Nerite snails that constantly go missing, but I don't look for them. I didn't see either of mine for 5 days after adding them. I just saw both of them again today. Try raising the water level (but only if you have a lid/hood on the tank) they won't survive long out of the water, unlike Apple Snails that can breathe air and they have a trapdoor that keeps them moist. I found an Apple Snail shell not too long ago. She was lethargic and my fish got to her. Now, I only have my male and he seems lonely. He was used to climbing on her shell. I might get 2-3 more. Just keep looking for him, he might turn up.
