Molly or Swordtail

I can't really tell. I bought two and supposedly they are a pair. They are orange and one is like realy big and bright and long (about 3 inches) the other one has a like a needle kind of thing coming out on his back besides the fin thats already there. I think they might be swordtails but the lfs people said mollies. Ive also heard that both swordtails and mollies are excellent carriers for disease. My pareents had them a while ago and supposedly they had a disease that ended up killing and spreading in the tank. Is this true? Sorry no pics.

the three inch fish is a male swordtail, as the "needle" is its caudal fin. Females dont have this elongated fin but pre developed males also lack the fin therefore the other is likely to be female if thew LFS sold them as a pair.
