I have an orange molly with a drooping tail fin. It is eating well and seems happyish although it is lower down in the tank than usual and not as active. It has been like this for about four days. My water tested fine, Ammonia and nitrites both 0, pH is 6.8 and Nitrates just showing (barely). Have a nitrosorb filter that has just been recharged. My tank has cycled and is well established. The other fish are fine. 3 glass cats, 1 balloon ram,10 neon tetras, 1 pair of swordtails, 1 dwarf honey gourami, 6 silver tipped tetras, 2 chain loaches and 2 bristlenose plecos. My tank has a little tonic salt in it that i added a couple of days ago.Any ideas please?

Thanks. Tank is 240 litres. No spots or discolouration on Molly. I was wondering if it was a swimbladder problem of some sort, or constpation? No idea what to do for those things though.
I feed pleco tabs, flake food, sinking food tabs and bloodworms. There is a mixture of live and plastic plants, i let a little algae grow on the wood feature for food for top of tank fish like the Molly (usually) and the swordtails. All the fish are quite small, as in have not reached maximum size yet.

Molly with the drooping tail

Well, my Molly died. Not nice losing a fish. Now i find i am getting black fungus on some of my plastic plants. I did a stone vacuum, 50L water change yesterday and the put in a new biosorb filter and recharged nitro sorb filter. Changed the filter wool, which i only do every couple of months. cleaned out filter tubing and cleaned tank glass. The fish look happy, what i have left, after a bout of white spot a month ago and the droopy molly. Thanks for all the info.*ALL*

Hi, Julia59.

I am having the same problem. I lost a Tetra last week due to the "drooping tail fin" scenario, and now I have a black molly that is exhibiting the same symptoms. My water quality appears fine, although the water is soft. Were you able to find out what my be causing this problem? I am medicating the water, in a vain attempt at salvaging the rest of the fish.
