Molting Crabs

Well today I found the skeleton of my cleaner shrimp who molted. When I realized he had I removed the shell from the tank because I didn't want it to pollute my tank or anything.

After I removed it I began thinking if it was right to remove it. I recently lost alot of hermits due to lack of food sources (I didnt think to supplement their food after my clowns died)... Anyway if I were to leave the molted shrimps shell in the tank would it serve as food for cleaners? Or would it just decinigrate and cause debris and pollute my tank?

Most of them eat their shells for excess nutrition, I know freshwater crustaceans do. I think you could have left it in there and it would be gone in a little while.

the shell is made out of calcium, so it's good for your tank. just leave it in there and it'll desintegrate in a few days. it won't pollute your tank.

Well this is good news to hear, not only is it good for the tank but I dont have to worry about moving everything around to get his shell out...

My sally lightfoot molted about two weeks ago and his shell was gone the next day! not sure who at it. And then just about three days ago my cleaner shrimp molted and i came done and found the sally lightfoot munching on the shell and now there is nothing left of it in the tank.
