oh! I just thought of a question. A week or something ago my mommy spit out her little ones. To my mistake, they were all hiding kind of behind her, and I shined the light on them, in doing so I think mommy ate them again. One managed to get away and he's hiding around the rocks staying in small places the others can't get too. Question is... if mommy is holding the fish after they hatch, why spit them out only to eat them again? Anyone actually know? And apparently I think my bumblebee is now holding also... I saw her rolling the eggs around in her mouth. She was trying to show them off to me, wish i got a pic.

How long ago was it that she took them back in? Mouthbrooders will sometimes take the babies back in after they've spat them out to protect them from possible danger. She wouldn't hold them for too long though, so if it's been a few days, and she doesn't appear to be holding them any more, she's probably eaten them.

Fish do this all the time, which is why the mother should be removed ASAP after the babies are released. Within a day or two, mom will have lost all parental instincts and eat her own fry if she can.
