Setup of my tank

Is it possible to attach the java moss (with fine fishline) to the rock/stone to add some green to the tank?

The substrate is 2.5" crushed coral, temp around 28deg. a 20W flourescnt lighting turn on 2hrs a day.

Anyone tried java moss, erect moss in a setup with crushed coral substrate?

Can't see why this wouldn't work, java moss rarely fails, the problem is usually "how do I control it?" as you end up with this massive afro-style growth! It's a low light plant but I'm sure it'll need more than 2 hours per day. Is the fluourescent a daylight bulb?

Yes, it is a 20W flourescent daylight tube.

The lights are only turn on at night.. here in Singapore, it gets pretty hot here. Tank is beside the windows, receiving only sunlight during the day on one side.

Btw, is algae good for the mbunas?
I saw slight signs of algae forming on the side of the tank and didn't want to remove them yet. Thought my fish might like it..

Current inhabitants:
-3 yellow lab
-1 johanni
-2 demosoni
-1 red zebra
-1 as shown in my avatar (cobalt blue..maybe)

BTW, the above mentioned species eat java moss??
I don't mind them lavishing on the green but want to avoid cleaning up the mess/ filter inlet choked with the moss if they should start picking on it. :O

Mine never really did much to my java moss, and gave java fern a miss as well. Try java fern - easy, more attractive in my opinion - looks like a plant and not a furry messy ball

that'll be cool, look forward to it.

I was born in Singapore CS_sg, long time ago now, used to live in Sembawang. My parents were in the forces back then. I returned on business about 6 years ago and stayed in a hotel at Bugis Junction (very fine city!) but my mother was horrified since she remembered how Bugis Street used to be! :)

Thats a nice surpise. *celebrate
I spent much of my childhood in Sembawang as my parents used to work there!

The farms we (bro-in-law decided to drive me there after seeing how obsessed I am whenever he sees me reading MFT!)
Don't miss out visiting the farms next time you come visiting. Its my first time so, I hope the farm owners 'allow' me to take some pics.

:D

Aquatic Plant Farm

Sorry Taffyfish.. I didn't manage to take any pictures when I was at the farms, just thought it wasn't that 'appropriate' to do so in their 'private' area. :(

However, I've found some pictures by another local (Sg) forum on the same farm that I went.
Enjoy the pictures from the link above.;)

No, I didn't get the Java Fern & Windelov there. They were already tied onto HUGE Long driftwoods ($$ & tank space). I know of a lfs which sells them loose in basket though.

Well...... it didn't end here.
I couldn't resist when the guy at the farm decided to show me around abit and 'flaunt' the collections of Nanas, Java Moss and a really nice looking Echinodorus 'Red Devil' & Echinodorus Uruguayensis. They ended up in the bag and now in my Community tank :p.
The 'Just Look Only' mental preparation fails 90% of the time at a well-stocked lfs. At an aquatic farm of that size, its a 100% in my case! :p

(Brother-in-law said: Look ONLY huh? All these plants for the cichlids?)
