Moving day for the Tropheus and Synodontis...

#1
I did a bit of reconfiguration on the old aquariums today...

Previously it was...

55-gallon
-> 11 x Botia Macracanthus (Clown Loach) @ 1.5"
-> 2 x Erpetoichthys Calabaricus (Rope Fish) @ 8"
-> 1 x Typhlonectes Natans (Rubber Worm) @ 22

150-gallon
-> 19 x Tropheus Moorii Nkonde @ 3.5"
-> 24 x Tropheus Sp. Black Kiriza @ 3"
-> 29 x Synodontis Petricola @ 1.5"
-> 12 x Synodontis Multipunctatus @ 1.5"
-> 3 x Atyopsis gabonensis (Vampire Shrimp) @ 1.5"

New configurations are as follows...

55-gallon
-> 19 x Tropheus Moorii Nkonde @ 3.5"
-> 12 x Synodontis Multipunctatus @ 1.5"

150-gallon
-> 24 x Tropheus Sp. Black Kiriza @ 3"
-> 29 x Synodontis Petricola @ 1.5"
-> 3 x Atyopsis gabonensis (Vampire Shrimp) @ 1.5"
-> 2 x Erpetoichthys Calabaricus (Rope Fish) @ 8" [TEMPORARY]
-> 11 x Botia Macracanthus (Clown Loach) @ 1.5" [TEMPORARY]
-> 1 x Typhlonectes Natans (Rubber Worm) @ 22 [? ? ? ? ?]

The logic behind all of this is likely the 19 Nkonde I have are all I will get to have since you never see them locally. Kiriza on the other hand, seem to be one of the only Tropheus you see in local retail. I also did this for the chance to get the Tropheus to sort themselves out for breeding, although the Kiriza, I think there are two females "holding" as is, although mucking around in the tank might have hindered that! :(

The CLOWN LOACHES and ROPE FISH are available for trades if anyone has some Petricola, Multipunctatus, or KIRIZA they can part with.

Retail value (Petland prices) of the CLOWN LOACHES are $110 (11 x $9.99) added up individually, and the ROPE FISH are $40 (2 x $19.99).

If anyone wants to work something out, let me know. :) I will post some new pictures soon.

I've got to say it, you really know how to pack them in... that's a lot of fish in the 55.Aren't they so jammed that I think you'll inhibit breeding?

Tropheus are like other Mbuna species from the Rift Lakes of Africa... you need x-amount of them to inhibit aggression toward a particular fish... putting 6 or 8 fish of this size which would be standard for a 55 in most other fish, would actually be detrimental to Tropheus and most other Mbuna. It's not as crowded as it sounds... I would have thrown up some pix but the glass is dirty (water spots) and I didn't want to clean it tonight... I just wanted to let them settle in. :) Tropheus and other Mbuna it's actually better to have a few too many, than a few too little. :)

I'll take your word for it - I kept my tropheus duboisi with my mbuna, it's just that 19 of them + the 12 syno's sounds a lot , especially if you want them to breed.

I think a picture would help, just to see how spread out they are

Hello again... I received some requests for pictures of the NKONDE in the 55-gallon... so here are pictures I took just a few minutes ago. Enjoy!

Also, I am running a Rena XP3 Filster canister filter, an airstone behind the rocks, and a 200-watt heater @ 80 degrees fahrenheit.
