I grew up taking care of massive freshwater fish tanks and recently was using my 16 gallon tank to host fancy goldfish (which unfortunately all died last month from a nasty parasite despite my efforts to medicate).
So, at first I thought I would change my tank into a tropical tank because I actually found that taking care of goldfish is a huge pain in the ass. They are the dirtiest fish on the planet! Having them made me really miss my old tropical tanks. Then, I found a new marine conversion kit for my tank and got excited at the idea of starting a saltwater tank.
I've always wanted to do saltwater but I haven't had the $ and permanent living space to do it. Now that I've just moved into a new apartment and plan to stay put for awhile the time seems right. Unfortunately my apartment is small so I'll have to make do with my 16 gallon.
This is also going to be a bit of an experiment. Before I give the details of my tank situation I'd just like to point out that I already know this is not the most ideal setup for a first time saltwater tank. So, my tank... is... a BiOrb.
The goal is to get it to look like this:
I love the tank because of the way it looks but I fear that the filteration system will not be up to code. We'll see what happens. If anyone is from the Chicago area then you probably are familiar with Old Town Aquarium. It's my go-to spot for advice... they are going to hate this idea. lol
Anyhow, how many fish do you think I could get in that thing? I was thinking only 2 clowns and a clean up crew but maybe I'm undershooting?
