Finally got tired of the plastic plants in my tank. So i went and bought 4 XL. Amazon swords, 2 Anubis plants, and 2 dwarve grass plants. so i added the required amount of nutrient tablets to promote root development. now reason for the change was that algae was growing on the plastic plants now can i use algae fix or will that effect the newly added plants? its not too bad on the driftwood or glass but i dont want it getting outta hand.

How many watts per gallon do you have? I do not recommend using any algae-fixing chemicals. These chemicals do not really fix the problem; they cover it up. If the plants are provided with enough nutrients, they should out-compete the algae, but you should tell us a little bit more about your lights and such. Do you dose CO2 or any liquid fertilizers?

The live plants are going to help out your situation a lot. These things that are supposed to get rid of algae are actually not worth the money, as previously stated. Some can even case a problem; I'd caution you against the use of chemicals with fish as delicate as Discus.

Also, what are your parameters? If you're doing enough water changes for the Discus algae shouldn't be a problem. Is the algae green or brown (diatoms)?
