My effort to increase lighting; harmful?

Ok i got my 35 gallon and in attempt to egt at least 1 wpg i have a spare strip light i can put on which will give me 35 watts but it wont fit readily onto the canopy plastic thing. So i got this glass, and im thinkin i cut like 3-4 strips and run then width wize, and rest the lights on those. Now is that risky? should i not do that or what?

or ok i got the light and then theres a 3 inche gap in the back of the tank so i put the light strip on top of the 1st light and resting on the filters, the bulb faces right on the open slot, that help any? i just want some hornworts and java ferns maybe.

why not get a piece of glass cut to fit the top of your aquarium...should be able to run a lot of lights that way

you could also get some acrylic cut for it
