My favorite Cichlid tank!

After doing a few searches on the web because I was bored I found this 75g tank that is beautiful. And it defeats the saying "Plants and Mbuna dont mix"

No one ever said plants and Mbuna can't be together. Definently not a natural looking tank, but if you notice its made up from all the plants said to be ok with Mbuna. Anubias, Java fern, and Val.

There is also cryptocorynes in the tank. It has been said many times that plants cant be kept together with Mbuna because of there herbivourous ways. Even with the plants in the tank.

Ditto to what C-man said.

He took extra care and planning when setting this tank up. He potted some of the plants, and most of the long term selection is limited to hardy, thick leaved plants.

If you want to try to add some mbuna to a dutch or amano style tank then be my guest and let us know the results. Most of the time when I see a statement similar to 'mbuna and plants don't mix' on this forum, it's to dispell doing the above. I've seen Matt and several others say what plants stand the best chance with mbuna, so I don't think it's very fair to come off sounding like your trying to just prove someone wrong.

Ugh...sorry, looks gross. Would look good with the proper fish in there, but looks horrible with mbuna.

And yes, there are plants that can do okay with mbuna, you just have to be selective and take precautions, as has already been said.

Id have to agree. The tank looks nice but the fish look out of place. Just doesnt look right.

looks sorta unnatural with the fish and skull...coulda probably buried the rock a bit
but the planted bit looks really really neat, i wish i was that good at aquascaping
