Well I finally stooped and paid 14$ for a small pleco, It was necessary and my tank was getting rather green quickly even with weekly water changes, and I have to say it is the most intresting fish to watch! Soon as he was aclimated i released him and he swam around like nuts for about 30 seconds then latched himself on the corner, My tank is right beside me bed so I keep my light on for a bit and watch the fish, I like how the plecos eyes followed me as I came near to it :D Really exciting and Surprisingly he gets along with his tank mates! Even with my Betta named Hae Ru who is responsible for 4 neon tetra deaths in the past week, I had 6 and he had to get hungry -_- These guys are really fun! Just thought i'd share :)*celebrate

I don't know, the people at my LFS are stupid, all it says are "Small Pleco"...I thought I was going to have to fish him out myself and bag him because nobody was helping me out, he has kinda stripes on him, dark stripes and dark body, maybe somebody could identify, My betta doesn't know what to think of this, He swims close to and looks at it as if to say "What the hell?" and then swims away slowly, I think hes intimidated. Today the Pleco is just hiding in the skull ornament, Probaly lots of algae in there and its nice and dark in there, My house was surprisingly hot today.

yea they get that big, bigger don't they? my friend has one that's like 9 years old it's over a foot long, in a 50 gallon tank I don't even think it's comfortable. Anyway, they look like some kind of dinosaur fish :D

Sounded like a common pleco to me too, that was my first thought at least. I have had a couple that reached around 20" in size. Watch out, those guys grow quick and large. They are an interesting fish to look at though.

Midman, I am not doubting your 20 inch claim as many other hobbyist have boasted 2 ft commons. So far, 13.8 inches is the largest recorded Pterygoplichthys pardalis (common pleco) and I am always on the lookout for a monster pleco. So do you have any pics of this fish that shows it's size?

13.8in is way off. Not sure if we still have the pics running around. They are in a thread here somewhere. Its a pic of a common pleco that I got from my boss when he tore his tank down. This guy was a solid 18in easy. If you search my older posts I'm sure you'll find it. He's in a slightly murky bucket.

Edit:Read Here for the monster pleco. Its a 5g bucket that its in.

That is a big pleco in your pic, but I just measured a 5 gallon bucket and it is only 12 inches across at the widest point. The fish in the pic isn't extended across the widest part of the bucket, but he is coiled up some leaving me to suspect he isn't much over 12 inches maybe a lil over 13. Hence 13.8 is the largest recorded. I've stated this numerous times (yes it's been a wile since I posted) but to explain further. Shane the owner of planetcatfish.com has openly asked for pictures of large plecs to be submitted to him so the argument over their maximum size can be settled. (it's been going on now for over a yr) And thus far 13.8 is the largest recorded. He and many others are including wild caught specimens that they have collected personally into this.

I will say that pic is a monster. And thus far one of the largest I've seen photographed.*thumbsup2
Sorry I didn't mean to hijack this thread, but am still very interested in a picture of an 18 inch common pardalis.
