Both of my African Dwarf Frogs passed away last week. I was really sad about the first one, Eugene. He was really small and cute. We names him after the wrestler on the WWE because he was the under dog but still a fighter. The other one passed then next day, looks like he got Dropsy. Live on little fellas.

It's ok. It is mostly my fault. This was my first tank. Well I bought all the materials at PetCo and I asked them several times how long I had to leave the tank fishless. Well they said only 24 hours. This was before I found this site and was doing a lot of research on the net. So I knew nothing about the fishless cycle or anything like that. So I know that I ave lost a lot of fish due to the ammonia. But I now know. I am still a little peaved thought about PetCo. The person who helped me said she had years experience and had eight tanks at home. But yet even though I told her that I knew nothing about what to do she still said that I only had to wait 24hrs before adding fish. But like I said, now I know.

Thanks. I knew something was wrong and was taking in water samples every other day or so. But wasnt getting a straight answer as to what was going on. But now I know and wont make the same mistake again. I am also going elsewhere for advice. Mainly now I am looking on this site for help with anything. It is just hard to find places here because PetCo was the only place really within 45 minutes that even seemed like they could help with anything.

Yeah, I know the deal with Petco. I went in one yesterday looking for a test kit. There is one guy at that store who isn't completely in the dark when it comes to fish, but he's the only one.

Some of the chain stores (PetCo, PetSmart, etc.) do have knowledgeable people working there, while some (perhaps most) are an abomination.

I find it surprising how few people "out there" still don't know about fishless cycling. I'll admit, even though I have been in and out of this hobby for about 30 years, I only used that method for the first time earlier this year.

Yeah it sucks. I had another fish go belly up today on me. But I bought a product to help out with the cycle and it is working. My ammonia level is under 1ppm now so things are looking up. The whole thing was just frustrating. I am in my early twenties but have a college degree so it has just been one of those things that I had to know what was wrong to be able to attempt to fix it. But one thing that will help soon, is that I am moving to a large city soon, Portland. So I will go from only having one store choice to many.

It will be nice for you to have more choices to be able to go to. Generally what I found works best is to visit your stores, and dont ever depend on the information that they have. Take a pen and some paper with you...write down any names you're interested in etc. THEN come back home and google or search for them on MFT for more info.
