my gourami changed colour overnight

been trying to find some info on this and i have been told a few things:

they change colour when they partner up and are ready to mate. (only one has changed colour a female blue)

thier true colours come out after a while because they are in a more relaxed inviroment compared to a shop.

just wondering if any of this is tru or it is another reason. ill try post a pic soon of colour and pattern change soon

These are opaline gouramis - mine does the same thing. Normally looks like the bottom picture, kind of washed out appearance. If she's startled or scared, she gets that darker coloring (to blend in?). I think she's also a bit darker at night.

Was your fish in a stressful situation? If so that could definately be the answer to the color change...I have seen several fish turn different shades and colors,especially after i rescued them from friends who didn't care for them. Also, did the color change happen on the whole fish or the gills?
