I finally got one of the fish I have been wanting... a GBR. I went in the LFS and there she (?) was in the tank all alone. I brought her home and put her in the tank and she seemed almost immediately at home... she only hid for about 15 minutes. she stays out in the open, and when I walk up to the tank she comes right up to the front. She's only about the size of the neon and glolights that are in the tank, and no one messes with her. Here's about the best picture I can get right now... Its not the best, but I will keep trying.

I am supposed to be getting a 55 gal sometime in the near future. When I do, I am hoping to get another one as well as maybe a angel. I am still trying to figure out what else will go in the 55, (probably move everything over from the 5) but for now, that is what I have planned. Until then, I have reached my limit in this tank.

Thanks!!

Nice ram! I have a pair in my 7g and i just love them, there colors are beautiful!
btw, i cant really tell from that pic but from the looks of it, its a female. Males colors are much more vibrant than the females, so if you like you female (?) then you will lovvee the males :D

Thanks Helena,
She (?) looks alot like the one in your avatar. The colors are not very bright, but I can make out a light pink color on her stomach area. Whether it is a male or female is not important at the moment... I am just glad I was able to get it. He/she was the only one left in the tank and as small as it is I felt sorry for it and had to get it. He/she gets along great with the tetras in the tank, so I think I made a good choice.

Well I finally found another GBR that I like. Although its color is not very bright right he(?) is fun to watch. The female I have had for several months has much more brilliant colors. They came out when I put him in the tank. His black stripes were very dark, but have faded since. He is hard to get pics of , but maybe you can get an idea of what he looks like.

Yes, that GBR is a female, and a very nice looking one. Good job.... ;)

Looks like 2 females to me. The first pic you posted is definitely female, and the 2nd is hard to tell, but by looking at the pelvic fins, looks like a female.

Also, any sign of pink on the belly, definitely female.

Oh, and females aren't always duller in color like said above. When I had 10 pairs of GBR, they were all brightly colored, males and females. A duller, not as nice looking one just means either poor stock, or health problems.

I was wondering, the pelvic fins on the second fish are quite a bit longer than the ones on the first. I thought that those were longer in males, but I could very well be mistaken. The first one I had actually did not brighten up until I added the new one, which I thought was odd. The dull one is very yellow in the light, so hopefully it will also brighten up after it gets more accustomed to the tank. If they are both female, they both get along very well. Either way, I like em, so I guess they are gonna stay.

If the pelvic fins extends past the beginning of the anal fin, then it's a male. The females have much shorter pelvic fins. But like I said, in the 2nd set of pics, it's hard to tell. I was going off the first of the 4 pics, where it looks shorter. But if it's longer, then you have a male.

Unfortunately I came home today to find him swimming in circles and upside down. I am thinking he had some kind of parasite, b/c he ate all the time when I fed them, but he seemed to not gain weight. Well, I will have to keep an eye out for another one. RIP male GBR.......
