I have a common Pl*co in my 20 tank and he is still young and only about 4 inches. However he does something strange, when he is out and about in the tank, he sometimes darts up to the top of the tank, spews bubbles or something and darts back to the bottom with a few airbubbles coming forth from him? Does anyone know what he is does or why he does that, is my Pl*co the only one to do this? thanks:)

mine do that when I'm cleaning the tank...Do you have oxygen going into the water? they are going up to get air and usually they do it when theres not enough air for them in the water....try a bubble wand he'll probably stop then

Perfectly normal behaviour - even if you do have a bubble wand running. They store an air supply internaly, and when it runs out, they expel the old air on the way up - gulp a new lot - and go straight back down again. It's the 'ol Pl*co elavator run.

I've got 3 sailfins - they all do it. I make sure there are places in the tank where they can stay in the quiet and still have that vertical run without bumping into anything.
